Ghirmay Ghebreslassie: Gold at World Championships

By | Allgemein @en

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie had a sensational race and was the first athlete to receive a gold medal at the IAAF World Championship in Beijing (China, Aug. 22 – 30). The 19-year old Eritrean finished first at the marathon in a time of 2:12:47.

For many, Ghebreslassie’s win came as a surprise, as he just debuted in the marathon event. However, the newcomer had already made a name for himself at this year’s Haspa Marathon Hamburg. Back in April he was the runner-up in a great new personal best of 2:07:47.

Now he is celebrating his first international medal! Congratulations from Hamburg!

By | Allgemein @en

Mark your calendar for the 2nd PSD Bank Halbmarathon Hamburg on 20 September 2015 at 6 PM. We offer you a great race through Wandsbek – the city’s largest and greenest district. The PSD Bank Halbmarathon Hamburg is a scenic evening run and also a great opportunity to race in a team of three and split the distance of 21,1 kilometers.

All you need to take part in the half marathon relay are two more colleagues, friends or family members to form a team of three runners.  Each of you will cover a section of 8, 4, or 9,2 kilometers. This might be particularly interesting for everybody that is new to running and wants to gain racing experience!

Some of you are looking forward to running the LOTTO Hamburg Marathon Relay next April – so this might be a great way to practice your teamwork skills in advance!

Eluid Kipchoge is bound for Berlin

By | Allgemein @en

Eluid Kipchoge, the course record holder of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg (2:05:30) and 2013 champion will be competing at the BMW Berlin Marathon on September 27, 2015. The world record-course in Berlin will see the clash of three superstars on the marathon scene. Two of Eluid’s main competitors in Berlin will be Emmanuel Mutai and Geoffrey Mutai (not related).

It will be up to these three Kenian runners to determine whoever is the best marathoner on this planet. Emmanuel Mutai might want to claim revenge, as he finished second in Berlin in 2014 clocking 2:03:13 – just twenty seconds behind Dennis Kimetto, who ran a world record (2:02:57) that day. Geoffrey Mutai is a 2:03 marathon guy as well – one of his greatest career achievements is winning the New York City Marathon.

We’ll have our eyes set on Eluid, who we have already witnessed finishing first in Hamburg. Within the past 10 months he has won the Chicago Marathon as well as the London Marathon. He will welcome the competition and let them push him to a very fast finishing time – it’s going to be a great race!

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for everyone competing at the BMW Berlin Marathon!

Screening samples all test negative

By | Allgemein @en

All doping tests that had been taken after the race on April 30th were negative. On the whole, urine samples of six elite athletes were taken and examined. As the agency responsible for the testing, the German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) confrimed to us, all tests led to ‘negative’ results.

According to the chief-organiser of the race, Frank Thaleiser, “The results are satisfying and above all, they underline the importance of the job done by NADA as an independent monitoring body combined with the guideslines by the IAAF.”
